The women of Brambleberry House are back!
Returning home to Cannon Beach and living in Brambleberry House, a place where good things seemed destined to happen, had brought Melissa Fielding and her young daughter such joy. Perhaps it was no accident when the single mom 'bumped' into Eli Sanderson and discovered the handsome doctor was also back in town. The ex-soldier was still so captivating, but also more guarded. Was now the time to put old ghosts to rest?
Plus, one of the original Women of Brambleberry House stories - The Daddy Makeover!
Eben Spencer learned long ago to keep his emotions under wraps. Now it's just him and his little girl - until he meets Sage Benedetto. She's warm, emotional, open - everything Eben is not. Sage's bewitching nature soon has this tycoon rethinking his future...

A Soldier Return RaeAnne Thayne Books Reviews

  • This is a story about an Army doctor that comes home to Cannon Beach to help his father who had double knee replacement surgery. Will ends up working with Melissa, who he had a crush on in high school. A good love story that takes place on the beautiful Oregon coast.
  • I felt like the characters in this book were very two-dimensional and the plot line was pretty over-used, I’ve even read another Raeanne Thayne with a doctor / nurse relationship that seemed similar, except that one was really good.

I just felt like this one was written because it was part of a contract, rather than because it was a story the writer just HAD to tell us.

There were also some parts where I thought the editing had gone wrong - there’s a scene where the little girl asks Eli to join them fo0r pizza and then a page or two later asks the same thing, but as if she never asked it in the first place.

There is also the worst line I have EVER read in a Raeanne Thayne book, that made me groan and go “ew yuck” at the same time and it reads something like “He gave the woman a polite smile, Melissa could swear she felt her ovaries melt.” I mean, just WTF? That’s supposed to mean she has the hots for him?

I always pre-order everything by this author, I won’t be doing that again I’m afraid.
  • As always RaeAnne Thayne delivered the goods.Great story.I couldn't put this one down.It just grabbed a hold of me and wouldn't let go.I'll be looking forward to reading her next book.
  • 4.5 Stars

This book takes place about 10 years after the end of the previous book. That would have been nice to know from the very beginning but I'm sure it was difficult to work that into the story immediately.

There are three new women living in Brambleberry house too. I would have liked a little more backstory on how Rosa took over her Aunt Anna (book 3 of the series). I thought that either Anna or Sage would have ended up living in Brambleberry house with their family eventually, but obviously that couldn't happen because then we wouldn't have gotten three new stories!

After the first three books all being an enemies to lovers type trope, it was nice to have a friends to lovers trope. These books always move faster than I wish I they would because they're so short. The couple falls "deeply" in love after only knowing each other a week. Given, they don't declare love til after three weeks, but they stay away from each other as much as they can so it's not like they could get to know each other more during the two weeks they aren't really talking.

I enjoyed Eli's military backstory and found Melissa's backstory with her flakey ex also to be refreshing after the previous books having a lot of dead spouses. I'm glad Melissa actively worked to not fight with her ex. She stood her ground and did what what best for her and her daughter, but also did what she could to let her daughter have a relationship with her father.

There's no sex and no swearing in this book.

I was really delightfully surprised with the epilogue! I don't want to give away any spoilers, but if you haven't read any Haven Point books, you should read The Cottages on Silver Beach before Sonia's story comes out! I'm really looking forward to seeing how it all plays out!
  • I love stories with kids and dogs. This one has both, along with complex characters who have many things to deal with. Skye is an adorable girl, and the dogs are cities too. We get to see some characters from the previous stories, and meet some new ones. Glad to hear Rosa and Sonia both will have stories before too long. Eli and Melissa are vibrant characters, also.

If you like a leisurely pace, an emotional tone, a character oriented storyline with no steam and vivid characters who make you cheer for them, then this is for you. You can read the first three Brambleberry House books, but they take place about 12 after before this. You still might want to to get the whole picture. Enjoy!
  • I love these stories from That me. I'm glad she decided to revisit Brambleberry. Love these characters and the plot of this book. So looking forward to reading the next installment.
  • Once again, RaeAnne Thayne weaves a story that keeps your eyes glued to the book until the very last page of this spectacular tale.
Let your imagination carry you away as you picture the breathtaking scenery, sit back, smell the roses, and enjoy this spellbinding love story.
  • I have read several other books in this series. But it feels like this one was "called in". This dialogue was flat. The events were too far separated by soul searching over kisses.
